Moving through life’s chapters

I find myself in different times of my life, returning to this inspired poem…

******
AUTOBIOGRAPHY IN FIVE SHORT CHAPTERS
by Portia Nelson

I

I walk down the street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk
I fall in.
I am lost … I am helpless.
It isn’t my fault.
It takes me forever to find a way out.

II

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I pretend I don’t see it.
I fall in again.
I can’t believe I am in the same place
but, it isn’t my fault.
It still takes a long time to get out.

III

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I see it is there.
I still fall in … it’s a habit.
my eyes are open
I know where I am.
It is my fault.
I get out immediately.

IV

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I walk around it.

V

I walk down another street.

*******

in different areas of my life I feel I’m still in chapter 1 and 2, in other areas I’m pleased to say Chapter 4, sometimes I slip up and return to Chapter 3 to see if it’s still the same hole I remember, but I swiftly return to the pleasing Chapter 4 and constantly keep aiming for Chapter 5 in ALL the areas…

New street...

New street...

one day, I believe we’ll all gather in our new street and share our journeys through the chapters…

Till then my friends… here’s to a  joy-full , enriching journey through all the chapters…
