smells like joy

Smell – This sense is so under-rated and yet there are specialists who work in this trade who’ll tell you that there are about 110,000 smells in nature. The human being perceives only about 100-200 – I’m sure the true statistic is even less as again we don’t really take the time to really take-in the smells. Ever been transported back to a memory through smell… When life seems like it’s running out of control -tune into this wonderful sense and smell how sweet life can be…

Animals depend on odors secreted from their bodies to communicate.

For humans, odours communicate a variety of messages, depending on the odor and the person receiving it. The aroma of a baking apple pie sends one message when someone is hungry and quite another when that person has just finished a six-course meal!

Our nose is the location of an amazing sense that the modern humans lost it because they don’t use it anymore. But indigenous populations and animals do have it and use it. It’s the biological compass, made of many magnetite (an iron oxide) crystals, located at the base of the nose’s sinus. This organ enables the organism to detect the north.

That’s why – unlike the explorers – the people of the jungle tribes never get lost in the forest. The first Europeans in contact with these tribes thought they had a keen sense of the details but the same thing happened with the nomad African tribes from the deserts, where landmarks change quickly.

Our lives are often so fast paced, we don’t take time out to smell the roses… indulge this inspired scent and give yourself the treat of your favourite smells, or just enjoy the variety of scents around you, that you may have once again, taken for granted
